They were formed out of the ashes of Stone Pony, a heavy blues rock group. In the early to mid seventies a British rock and roll revival took place, mainly low key but manifested itself chart wise with acts like Alvin Stardust and Shakin’ Stevens. The Boat Club had some regular rock and roll revival nights during 1973. Another rock and roll revival group doing the rounds in 1973 was “The Earthquakes” from Derby. The Houndogs found plenty of work for a couple of years in the Midlands and at Nottingham venues like the Imperial, The Boat and even the Sandpiper club in 1974.

Mick Dale had been on the scene since the early sixties playing with the Junco Partners, meeting Colin Staples along the way and teaming up with him for a number of years. Paul “Beano” Summers first played alongside Wayne Evans (later of Gaffa) in the Tadpole Lane and District County Council Charity Band in the late sixties and then fell in with Colin Staples at the Milton’s Head blue sessions in 1969. He later played with Ned Ludd and many others and still played alongside Colin Staples until his passing this year (2024). Tony Crosby had played in the Red House Blues Band with Tim Disney and later replaced Rik Kenton in the second line up of Woody Kern in the sixties.

Is the Dick Taylor mentioned in the newspaper article (22nd Nov 1974) actually Dick Hartman?
