At the end of October 1972 the Colin Staples Blues Band broke up with the rump of the group becoming Stone Pony, a heavier blues rock sound, and Colin forming a duo before getting another band together. Playing locally at the Imperial and Moor Farm Inn Stone Pony also got support slots with the likes of Budgie and Chicken Shack. Paul Summers played keyboards but would occasionally play guitar, usually slide.

After 1973 they came to an end as Stone Pony but with the addition of bass player and vocalist Dave Green they became Rock and Roll revivalist band The Houndogs.
Some members of Stone Pony made an appearance as Superdude in 1976 with ex Odysseus members.
