The Talkies

Nottingham/Worksop based group maybe. Circa 1981/82

For a time drummer Paul Betts, previously with Centauris, Captain Cooks Dog, The Favourites and The Drug Squad, was with this group. He has three recordings and hazy memories.

Line up:
Jon Plumbe – Keys, Guitar, Vocals ??
John Everett – Guitar ??
Neil: Bass
Paul Betts: Drums

“These tracks were recorded at Spaceward Studio Cambridge, the main guy in the band was Jon Plumbe he sang played guitar and keys I think, and a guy called Neil played bass, cant remember his surname”.

The Talkies – Kissing in the Movies – c1981/82
The Talkies – Talk To Me – c1981/82
The Talkies – It’s Not Easy – c1981/82

There is also a live recording on youtube from the Imperial on St James’s Street, Nottingham. “vegasrulesok” who uploaded the audio has little info about the group and someone commented on it suggesting it might be SF2, a Lincoln group, but certainly isn’t them. They last played the Imperial at the very end of 1976 and had a different sound to this recording. Listen to The Talkies here.

When I’ve listened to the gig I’ve managed to hear little snippets of possible track titles and some other banter which leads me to think one of them might be “John Everett” and they might be from “Worksop”.

Here are a few ruff notes I have made thus far with guesses at song titles.
