Retford Beat Group 1964
Originally called “Eric and the Saints” but persuaded to change their name by fan Susan Durcse. Led by drummer Eric Morris from Retford, who was also the charmain of the Whitehall Youth Club with Robert acting as Vice-Chairman. Nigel Rumsey had just returned from Australia thus earning his nickname. Eric, Ian, Nigel worked at Taylor Woodrow, Robert at B.I.C.C. and Roger at A. H. Turners of Markham Moor. Roger also acted as the agent for the group. Use of the Clavioline, a sort of anologue synthesizer, gave them an unusual sound. Examples of the Clavioline in pop are Del Shannon – Runaway and The Beatles – Baby, You’re a Rich Man.
