Nottingham beat group circa 1963 starring Barry St Ives and Scott Young. Also in the group was Bill Mosley.
The Swingin’ Futurists announced themselves at the beginning of 1963 and Nottingham city boy Barrie St. Ives, a vocalist and guitarist, who had been leading a group called The Globetrotters in early 1963 joined The Futurists in late spring of that year.
They played around Nottingham, in Watnall at the “Log Cabin”, the “Cornhill Club”, Carlton and the Beat Club at the Rainbow Rooms on Broad Street.
On the bill at the Cornhill Club with The Futurists are The Zodiacs who featured Rob Duffy who would go on the play with “The Children”, The Lovin” and “The Nerve”.
They shared the bill with Ivan Jaye and the Jaycats in August. Ivan Jaye had split from Alvin Lee and Leo Lyons (The Jaybirds) at the end of 1962 and now fronted his own Jaycats.
On the bill with the “Renegades” from Birmingham who went on relocate to Finland and Italy where they found some regional success.
Support to “The Merseybeats”.
They did a farewell gig at the Rainbow Rooms before setting off on a tour of Germany from late October to December.
In December 1963 The Beatmen asked Bill Moseley to join them as a replacement for Cliff Haynes who had decided to leave. They may well have asked him at the December 11th gig that both groups shared at the Rainbow Rooms.
1964
The Futurists carried on into 1964 but then called it a day.
Barrie St. Ives went on to the “Tempo Victors” and then “Billy Shaw and the Showstoppers”. From there he carried on in the world of clubland comedy.
