Manchester based band circa 1981/82 who roots in Nottingham

The French: Patrick Allen, William Redfern, Phil Kirby, Graham Lees, Ian Ward

The French were the rump of Nottingham new wave group Art Failure who relocated to Manchester in 1981 and added two new members making it a five piece of:

William Redfern : Vocals
Patrick Allen : Keyboards and Backing Vocals.
Graham Lees : Guitars.
Ian Ward : Bass Guitar.
Phil Kirby : Drums.

The French playing live

With a slightly more synth pop sound than Art Failure they released two singles in 1981 and 1982 and in 2013 a retrospective album of three tracks from the singles (omitted was the cover of Kraftwerk’s The Model) and seven unreleased songs was released by Graham Lees on his Duenier Productions label called “Is this bravery?” by The French 8083.
