THE SONS OF ADAM

Blues and Tamla group The Sons of Adam formed in 1963 in Nottingham, with a line-up of Troy Wayne on lead vocals, Paddy Flynn on vocals, lead guitar (b. Patrick Flynn, 1945), Rog Lymn on vocals, rhythm guitar (b. Roger Keith Lymn, Friday, February 11, 1944, Arnold, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England), Harry Hopwell on vocals, bass (b. Michael Hopwell), Chick Churchill on organ (b. Michael George Churchill, Wednesday, January 2, 1946, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, England) and Mick Franks on vocals, drums (b. Michael Maltby, Tuesday, August 24, 1943, Sherwood, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England).

Flynn started playing guitar at 16 in 1961 and when he joined his first band Leroy and the Avengers, he brought what he thought was the first Fender Stratocaster in Nottingham which was white. He was then in The Rockin’ Vulcans for a while until he soon joined The Sons of Adam.

Churchill lived at 1 Bulmer Street, Mansfield.

In 1959 at 15 Maltby (Franks) left Claremont School, Claremont Road, Nottingham and went to work as office boy at Nottingham’s Magistrates Court and then progressed financially to working in medical records at Nottingham Children’s Hospital, Derby Road, Nottingham.

The Sons of Adam had a manager in Mick Parker (b. Michael Parker, 1940-1943, Plumtree Village, Nottinghamshire, England), the owner of The Dungeon Club in Stratford Street, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire where the band played 13 times. Parker had been brought up in Old Basford, Nottingham.

The Sons of Adam played at The Storyville, Cologne, West Germany in December 1965.

In Early 1966 Troy left to get married and Churchill and Lymn I think also left.

In Early 1966 The Sons of Adam added 25-year-old Barrie Heald on tenor sax (b. Monday, December 9, 1940, Arnold, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England) and John Sanderson on tenor sax.

Heald was ex-The Beatmen.

In July 1966 Franks left to join Sons and Lovers and The Sons of Adam split.
