Nottingham band circa 1978 -1982
Jon Coales: Guitar
Simon Morley: Guitar
Ian: Bass
Martin (Hubbard): Drums
Phil Thomas: Vocals
Jon and Simon wrote their own songs which were the gist of their setlist at gigs. They would do one or two covers at the end maybe. One was the Chuck Berry song “Rock and Roll music” which The Beatles had covered.
Many gigs at The Imperial. Supported Gaffa at The Boat. Travelled to such places of delight as Grimsby, Rotherham, and Wellingborough. The Rotherham gig was at a venue where the week before Def Leopard had played.
At one gig at a Welfare in Accrington they were soundchecking and a local sat watching with a flat cap and a whippet dog asked them if they could turn the drums down!
They made a demo tape of about 6 songs maybe with Tony Mole as engineer, who also recorded a gig they did in Walesby, Notts. Jon Coales has the tape.
After a couple of years the band split. Phil headed for family life while Jon Coales appeared in The Marcel Marceau Band who released an album in 1991.
Phil Thomas remembers that at the time the brother of Paul Rodgers (Free) was hanging around Nottingham involved with bands in some capacity. Paul’s older brother Joe is on record as working for Paul when he was with The Roadrunners prior to joining Free in 1968 as a manager and it seems he worked in Nottingham in the seventies.
