Loraine was Alvin Lee’s girlfriend from 1963 to 1973. Witnessing first hand the rise of The Jaybirds in Nottingham and then nationally Ten Years After, she was at Woodstock and saw Alvin and the band achieve worldwide fame.
Loraine was born to publican parents in the Rose of England on Mansfield Road and grew up in Nottingham. In 2023 she released her book “Magical Highs: Alvin Lee and & me” “a Sixties Woodstock memoir”. She tells the story of growing up in Nottingham, falling on love with Alvin Lee, being at the heart of the burgeoning underground scene of late sixties rock culture and seeing Ten Years After rub shoulders with and become part of the rock greats. It is a story she tells with great pride, and so she should, for it was truly a great time.
In her book Loraine talks of a family incident when she was very young. Here is that incident as it was reported in the Nottingham Evening Post.
Coincidently, this was only 10 days after the birth of her younger brother Harold was also reported. Harold Stuart Burgon is also a musician and played in Life Without Mother in Nottingham circa 1969/70.
