Invisible Friends

Nottingham band circa 1982/83

Phil Shaw: Drums
Fiona: Bass
Al (Walker I think ): Guitar
Karl Niemz: Guitar

Karl moved to Nottingham in 1978/79 and became a fan of local bands Medium Medium, 23 Jewels, The Howdy Boys and Pinski Zoo. “I liked that sort of angular stuff“. He formed a band with a few like minded friends and played about three gigs, one at the Hearty Goodfellow and one at the Ad-Lib club.

“Al did some random wordy vocals,  speaking really. Phil went on to play with Clint Bestwood and the Mescal Marauders an later he went on the play drums in “Audrey” who played gigs in the 1990s in Nottingham and did release a cd independently. Fiona went onto play play bass in a band with a guy who who was the brother of the guitarist in the Red Guitars. They did play at Wollaton park one summer”.

“I have a tape of a recording we did at the Square Dance studios in Derby in 1982. The music was minimalist and yes naïve, angular but melodic, I was a big fan of the Young Marble Giants”.
