Grief’s Child

Retford based progressive blues rock band circa 1970-71.

Rob Pilsworth – Vocals
Kevin Thorpe – Lead guitar
Paul Atkinson – Percussion
Dave Macham – Bass guitar

Part of the new early seventies rock underground in Retford along with stable mates “Ribcage” and “Cerebral Tswett” they were considered to be the first “underground” band in Retford. They relied, mainly, on their own material and being influenced by Pink Floyd and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young they weren’t afraid to experiment with feedback and improvisation.

Showing their versatility, in a collaboration with the King Edward VI Grammar School, they wrote the music for a pop oratorio based on a poem, with choral parts performed by the school madrigal group and the rest performed by themselves using amplified electronic signal generators and a white noise generator” producing “eerie science fiction sounds”.
