Derby group 1965 – 1970
The Gill Ellis Four were formed from the ashes of The Jetts who came to end in 1965. Drummer Bill Ellis and guitarist John Gill had been in The (Rocking) Jetts since their inception in 1959.
Formed in the autumn of 1965 in Derby the Gill Ellis Four were, as their name suggests, a four piece consisting of:
Michael Blore (Bass Guitar)
Dennis Sleigh (Lead Guitar)
Bill Ellis (Drums)
John Gill (Rhythm Guitar)
The Gill Ellis Four played both RnB and pop music falling somewhere inbetween The Rolling Stones and The Seekers. They were managed by Malcolm Bailey and they recorded some demonstration discs to take to recording companies in London in 1966.
Soon established in Derby they played regularly in the East Midlands region until the end of the sixties.
A demo disc recorded at Victor Buckland’s store in Derby.
