Colin Cox Band

Nottingham based big band, 1980’s to the early 2000’s. They had been the Eric Pembleton Big Band who had been formed in the late 1940’s until Eric retired in the early 1980’s. The Eric Pembleton Big Band were the house band at the Festival Inn, Trowell for 30 years.

When Eric Pembleton retired in the early 1980s Colin Cox took over as the band leader and named it so.

The band continued to play at the Festival Inn Ballroom until the mid 1980s.
The Colin Cox Band band played at a gala concert for the official opening of the Nottingham Royal Concert Hall in February 1983, attended by HRH Princess Anne. (pictures below).

The members of the band at this time were:
Saxophones: Peter Cooke, Owen Edwards, Dennis Halfpenny, Jim Lyons, John Wolf.
Trumpets: Dave Hinson/Alan Morrison, Bill Marriot, Alan Booth, Dick Sedgwick.
Trombones: Ian Richards, David Bentley, Andy Bingham, Mick Chilton.
Piano: Walter ?
Bass: Paul Matthews.
Drums: Steve Cox.

The band continued to play for regular dancing on Saturday nights throughout the late 1980s and 1990s at the Festival Hall, Kirkby in Ashfield and played monthly Sunday night concerts at the Nottingham Forest Jubilee Club and later at the Manor in West Bridgford.
In addition, to the regular engagements the band played for a number of other occasions including
⦁ New Year’s Eve dances at Sheffield City Hall.
⦁ Yorkshire Television’s anniversary celebration at Harewood House, Leeds.
⦁ Concerts for the Huddersfield Big Band Appreciation Society.
⦁ Three wedding receptions for the daughters of Paul Shane (Hi De Hi).
⦁ Regular student balls at Nottingham University.
The band finished in the early 2000s when Colin Cox retired.
