The Ashes

1960’s North Notts group

The Ashes were Johny Gold (Vocals), John Kirk (Drums) both from Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mike “Charlie” Warin (Bass), John Moody (Rhythm Guitar) and Keith Hodgkinson (Lead Guitar) from Rainworth. They were formed from the ashes of Johnny Gold and the Escorts around 1964. They were on the books of Mansfield’s E.E.C. Entertainments Variety Agency. Johnny Gold left the group in May 1965 and the rest carried on as a four piece.
