Pink Harmony

I caught up with Dave Baker in 2019 to shed some light on this group.

Pink Harmony were a Derby based group who had been formely known as The Koalas in the late sixties. A four piece comprising Dave Baker: Bass, Graham: Drums, Chass: Rhythm guitar and Geoff: Lead guitar, they hit the road in their van and played the noisy pubs and clubs of the early seventies performing together from 1970 through till the end of 1972.

They used to play around the Derby, Nottingham and Sheffield areas and sometimes further afield like Portsmouth and London. Some of the Nottingham venues they played were The Imperial St James St, The Grand Hotel, The Beacon on Aspley Lane, the Festival Inn at Trowell and also places in Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Langley Mill, Heanor and Ripley etc.

They played mainly sixties music, covering The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers. Some of the bands they shared the stage with were Derby group Six Across and Nottingham groups The Clockwork Toys, Sons and Lovers and Colours of Love. Once, at the Marquee London they played support to Marc Bolan and T.Rex.

Dave Baker remembers
“we were playing one night at The Clinton Arms, Nottingham and I remember it was a very narrow stage and the vibration from my speakers made my amp fall off and hit me and knocked me off stage into one of the topless barmaids” and “playing at Leek on new years eve and on the way back the van broke down we had to sleep in the van all night until we were rescued the next day, the coldest I have ever been”

After three years of sweat and toil and their careers moving in different directions the lads parted ways taking their memories with them but unfortunately not leaving behind any photographs.
