Robert ‘Spence’ Hirst was the lead singer of the group Robert Hirst and the Big Taste, a Nottingham group who were popular during 1966-67, releasing one single on Polydor in Germany during the summer of 1967.

Robert Hirst then joined The Nerve in 1968, who were on the books of Larry Page, releasing 3 singles on Page One.

When the band folded I can only assume that Robert Hirst, still being on the books of his management and possibly with the remaining Polydor deal, or more likely the remaining Page One deal, was trying out new songs and looking for a fresh start. The acetate he recorded c1969-70 is testament to this. It is poor quality but possibly the last surviving one.
