Between the ages of 14 and 15 these ‘local to Arnold’ lads formed a beat group in 1963 playing covers of the period. They became the house band of the ‘Metropole Minors’ in January 1964. They also played the Oxclose in Arnold.

From the Arnold Local History Group facebook page:
Steve Smith (Talking about the bands Left, Right & Centre and Sandalwood):
“The bass player looks a lot like paul Latham lived on Runswick drive he played with the electrons my bro Dave smith on drums ,Dave morris brother to chris moris (paper lace) a lad called Dave from chillwell on lead”.

Dave Micklethwaite replied:
“David Morris and I formed the Electrons while we were at Redhill school with Barry Lupton on bass and Ray Eason on drums. The lineup changed a few times over the following years. We did a few gig at the Metropole cinema in Sherwood among other places”.

Dave Micklethwaite aka Drac would go on to have a long career in music, first as a musician with Desperate Dann, The Drains, Nick Turner and more and then as a sound engineer.
The brother of David Morris, Chris Morris would later play with ‘Infant’, ‘Billy Fury’, ‘Paper Lace’, ‘Stoneybroke’ and as solo.

Read about them in the context of the ‘Metropole Minors‘ in Sherwood.

There was another group called The Electrons working in Derby circa 1961-65.
And another group in Kirkby-In-Ashfield circa 1965
