Chuck Crest and the Crystelles

Long Eaton beat group 1962-64

When playing in Lincs and south Yorkshire they were sometimes called a “Nottingham” group but the regularity in which they played the “Peoples Hall” in Long Eaton suggests that was probably their home ground. They were once a six piece group but later became a five piece. They were involved in a road traffic accident in 1963. It was possibly Mick Chapman that went out under the name of Chuck Crest. They also had girl singer “Miss Danny” accompany them on many gigs. She had been described as “The most unusual girl in the world” and “the unusual black leathered Miss Danny”. Another time they were billed as “Chuck Crest and the Crystelles featuring Scott Darran/Darren”. They were also joined by Howling Percy Hermit for a show. They played the Notts, Lincs, Derbyshire, South Yorkshire and Midlands circuit before breaking up in 1964. Of bigger names they supported Mick Berry and the Outlaws and Chris Farlowe and the Big Sounds. Some local support acts included Colin King Rhythm Combo, The Secrets (Lincs), The Tartans (from Scotland), King Sixe Combo (Lincs), The Mavericks, Patti Brook and the Jet Blacks, The Jaybirds, Roy Stewart and the Cyclones, The Fantoms (Leicester), The Falcons.
